on second thoughts 'bout second life

Well, the e-mail contact with an old SL-friend reminded me what I have left behind as I left. And it made me think about it again. I have spend a lot of time in SL and most of the time I enjoyed it.

But SL has changed, that's pretty normal, because life is change. The problem is I am not able or willing to change too. I hate to see what RLV and its sideeffects did to the SL I liked.

  • Friends practically vanished. They were online but muted, blinded, locked or what else the RLV stuff offered. Perhaps I am to stupind to understand what's the point in login and not be able to do a singele action more as being loged out.
    • This I need my subs full attention thingy some Doms name as reason for the need of RLV.. well if the confidence in your dominance is that weak I would suggest try the other side and be sub.
I personally never felt the urge to do things in IM or else when training was going on. I enjoyed training and would not have spoiled that for myself be "cheating"
    • Some say: Its more realistic. Yeah sure, extremly realistic. If you get locked into a cage in RL there is no way to stand up and go watch tv while yout locking timer runs.
Realistic would be an viewer implemented safeword-feature, in RL you would hopefully never go without one.
What makes it more realistic is your fantasy and what you expect. The viewer does noting for you then taking the work of being obedient from you, no to detach things, not to stand up... So its a tool to feeble Doms and lazy subs.
    • I even read in a blog RLV its less crashy then the normal viewer. Well the trick is, if you can not do something to make the viewer crash it wont. Not starting the Viewer is even better, mine never crashed when it did not run.
  • A flood of crap items came to SL, you only needed to label it "RLV compatible" and the lemmings bought it. There where even Items where RLV features where completly obsolete, like an RLV compatible Itemdropwarner, which told you that you dropped an attachment... That usefull like a directly solarpowered lightbulb.
I build and scripted too, so I know how time consuming it is and I also made scripts for RLV (i tried to get "friend" with it and failed as you see) and know that this is even more complex.
  • The style of BDSM in SL went bad (I not talk about AK, since SL was widely ignored there). Some subs insited that RLV is mandatroy for a good sub and that you are not real sub without, as absurd as it sounds, it shows what RLV brought to the style om BDSM in SL. How "good" you are in only in yourself not in some lines of code you use or not.
  • RLV vs Trust: Before RLV SL-BDSM was based on a trust to trust base. Dom trusts sub trusts Dom. RLV replaced that with: sub HAS to trust Dom and Dom not needs to trust the sub since the Dom can force everything. And with the wrong choice of items even without safeword and all security one would use in RL.
  • Worst RL testing ground I can think of. I do not know how many explore BDSM first in SL and then in RL because it touched something in them. For me it was that way and this makes me shiver when I think of the "restrain me hard and merciless"-lemming in SL who went to RL with thier RLV primed ideas in the head.
To relativise what I said above, its only my opinion written in my blog. Some may love RLV and be able to tell 1000 reasons why it is good and why I am an idiot. But fact is RLV made me lose SL and that hurts and I have any reason to dislike it.

The solution I hear sometimes, is simply not to use it. But that does not spare me from the omnipresent overtalkative RLV items that create +2 lines chatoutput per action and disrupt any conversation. And it also not makes the "@version" IM go away some ppl send to check if you are abuseable...

I'm still remebered

odd but true, I got an email from a good SL-Friend, yes May I mean you. I thougt my rude leaving made everyone upset and unwilling to talk to me anymore. I'm happy I was wrong in that point.

And yes, I am still alive and I still miss AK and my friends. I read the group messages to stay at least a bit in touch with my ponyself.
